Araucana thread anyone?

I thought Lanae lived in Florida . . . ?

Candled a couple eggs under my splash hen and so far no fertility.

Second year, second time, exact same thing. She lays, I breed her, she instantly starts laying in a secret area, goes broody before I know it, and what do I know - None are fertile. Oh well, there's next time she lays. . . Which could be in a month, could be next year, who knows.

Hi Jeremy,

I am about 3 hrs north of you on the 101. We will be working in Napa at the end of May for a week. I could send eggs with my husband then if you wanted. Napa is closer to you then I am. Did you get ahold of karen about the bantams? She is a nice lady. Course you can always come up and see me and my birds. I would love meeting you and talking chicken. A friend of mine has a chicken get together a couple times a year in Antioch. If your interested I could let you know about it. It is mostly Araucana, Ameraucana, and Marans people. We share eggs and sell chicks if anyone has them.

Illia,

I am much closer to you than Florida.

Illia,

The double tufted splash hen I had and sold to a friend was the same way. Only laid an egg every couple of months and they rarely were fertile. I did get two chicks from her before I rehomed her. My friend has a blue hen from the same breeder we got ours from and she lays an egg everyday, gets bred all the time, but none of her eggs have ever been fertile. I do still have a splash hen and a blue hen from same breeder and they lay well and the eggs are always fertile. Just goes to show the variation in the breed.

I have a hen from Ann Horsman that hates the roo she is with and will not lay an egg while in his pen. I remove her and she will lay an egg. Funny birds.

Wow! We've been having some wicked storms through here with a lot of flooding. Some of you may have seen it on the national news. Southern Missouri, especially the east part, and northern Arkansas are in crisis. We're not in the middle of the wort part but definitely flooded. There are some levy's they may have to blow up to allow for the water to miss homes and towns and flood farm land east of here.

I have had 2 modems blown up by lightening, even with my fancy emergency battery back up and surge protector. I just installed another new modem and believe me, it will be unplugged when I'm done here!

I have 3 new Araucana chicks, 2 died in the shell. I've got some that will be tufted to tufted so it's not unexpected since they're all together still. The 3 are all doing well, 2 golden chipmunk colored chicks and one black, all rumpless, one chipmunk chick has a single large tuft and possible smaller one.

Gotta go now, my niece wants me to take a look at a house she's buying in Ava it's pretty close to the worst flooding in the state so I hope we can get there. HWY 60 is closed on the west bound lanes as it's under water so we'll go back roads to avoid that mess. I hope anyone in the path of the storms is okay and wishing we could share some of the rain with Texas and Oklahoma who are still in dire need.

I just got a phone call from a woman wanting Araucanas. She said that her last bunch of "Araucanas" were from McMurray and she bought them there because that is where Martha Stewart said that she bought her Araucanas. I explained that my Araucanas were rumples and tufted and that is what they are supposed to be. I tried to explain the whole hatchery "easter egger" thing. She did not believed me because the hatchery where Stewart got hers sell Araucanas with tails. Ahhhh...... thank you McMurray, thank you Martha Stewart.
Any how - sweet woman. I hope she finds what she's after. I sent her your way Lanae...... you can thank me later......

No problem Megan, I just sent your double tufted blue pullet to the wrong address anyway. So we are even.
