Araucana thread anyone?

Thanks Lanae! You've got beautiful birds too. I love the cuckoo pics I am seeing. Very nice! I am really enjoying seeing everyone's pics.

I just hatched 13 araucana out of 15 eggs. I forgot to take pics before they shipped out though.

Hoping to help another araucana addiction in Oklahoma. The ones I am growing out from my last hatch have some really cute tufts. All of the chicks in that hatch appeared rumpless, but the one wild type chick grew rump feathers really fast. I'm wondering if she will have a full rudimentary tail. Very odd as my wild hen and the roo she is with are both completely rumpless, but araucana always seem to enjoy throwing you surprises. I didn't expect this from them, so should be interesting to see how it turns out. The white flock is producing really well and throwing wonderful tufted/rumpless babies. I'll have to get some new pics of them as they grow.

Megan, was the ladys name Sylvia? If so she has emailed me. I accidentally gave her sticker shock. Originally I had quoted her cleanfaced and rumpless, and cleanfaced and tailed straight run chicks for $15.00 ea. That was several weeks ago and they are now sexable, so I quote her the sexed price. Plus she wanted two tufted chicks and I had never given her a price on tufted chicks. My bad.

So many people are asking for chicks and eggs. Thankfully I never trash an email.

People come to me all of the time thinking they have true araucana and their birds don't look like ours. lol Some can be convinced and others can't. Then trying to explain that they're not Ameraucana either. Very frustrating, but we keep on trying.

cackleberrycoop - no blues right now, but I'm hoping to work on a plan to restart my blue breeding. My one hen got killed by a red tailed hawk and the other we put down after she prolasped early this spring. I have a huge splash hen, DeeDee, who spends most of her time being broody, but I see she's laying again. I may have to match her up with my white roo who I'm pretty sure hides either blue/splash under that pretty white jacket of his. As of right now, I'm out of blues.

Hoping to get more this year before DeeDee gets too old. I know my blues are out there, but I just don't trust to bring them back in after other's have bred them. If this doesn't work out, I may just have to stick with my lavenders and whites. I know the whites aren't popular, but I love the flock I have. Their personalities are awesome and they are great family-oriented birds. Even daddy helps raise the chicks, which is nice to see.

That is a wonderful hatch rate. I wish people could get that from shipped eggs. I do well hatching here from my own eggs. I have never had a good hatch rate from shipped eggs though. I just ordered some of Gary's eggs, they should be here tomorrow. I haven't tried to hatch shipped eggs in a long time, so I figured I would give it another go. One of these days I will save up and buy some of your eggs Hinkjc.

Sylvia seems nice but I am not sure she wants to spend the money on a tufted bird. I don't blame her. I had a hard time justifying it when I bought my tufted birds. Fortunately now I can produce my own. It never gets old, each time a tufted chick hatchs, its like the very first one. So exciting.

I have one blue hen with one small tuft. I believe I now see one of the chicks with 2 small tufts. I'll have to gett pics if this rain ever stops. My chickens are soon going to need webbed feet. Luckily several of my runs are covered so they aren't so bad.

It's funny that you have a splash hen that keeps going broody. The araucana hen of mine that consistently goes broody is a splash.

My only Ameraucana hen just won't get out of the broody mode so I figured I would fix her up really good and have her earn her keep. Replaced her golf ball with twelve Araucana eggs from my two breeding pens. Could someone tell me the correct color of these two roos? The lite colored one is bi-lateral tufted and penned with four CF black hens. What color chicks can I expect from this? The blue duckwing(?) roo is also bi-lateral tufted and has two gold duckwing hens, a blue hen and a blue/ duckwing hen with him.
Illia- I have a little blue duckwing (?) hen that is an exact match for the one that you posted on here yesterday. Is she one that you rai
sed or is she from shipped eggs?

Megan- That is one awesome! little chick!! I hatched one last year that was solid black with brilliant white tufts, tried not to stare or gawk at him at all but couldn't control myself - he died before he was a week old. Best of luck with this one!
