Araucana thread anyone?

Here is the strangest color I have gotten this year. I love his coloring. He shines in the sun.

This is a nice red roo. I would have loved it if he had tufts. I am going to breed him back to his mom and see what I get. This is him and then her.

Here is my darkest cuckoo pullet and a light cuckoo with nice tufts

Out of one hatch, I ended up with 3 cleanfaced black pullets, 1double tufted black roo, 3 double tufted cuckoo pullets, 1 white tufted roo, 1 double tufted duckwing pullet, 1 double tufted duckwing roo, and 1 cleanfaced bbr pullet. So 7 out of 10 were tufted. And 6 of them were double tufted. My best rate so far. I don't expect it to ever happen again. They are 3 months old now and so far so good.

Wow, that roo's coloring is stunning!

I can't wait until my shipped Araucana eggs hatch in 3 weeks, I can see that some of the eggs are getting dark!

I love his coloring. I will probably breed him back to his mom also. He and the red roo are full brothers and so very different.

Here is another full brother and then the dad with the mom.

Araucana can sometimes give such nich surprises.

Thinking good thoughts for your hatch.

Thanks, I am getting another shipment of Araucana eggs tomorrow from hinkjc. I know that the hatch rate on Araucana eggs are not that great, so I had brought Araucana eggs from two different breeders. Hope I have enough hatch to have a good start on a flock of Araucanas.

Those are awsome looking birds. How hard is it to get rid of the white earlobes? I have a couple also.
Camera phone pic, but here are the young ones enjoying a dust bath together. Blue, black, splash and cuckoo.

After nearly a year of searching I have found a copy of the Araucana Poulterer's Handbook. I have only thumbed through it. There was a lot of variations in the 70's as to the standard. The Collonca Society was promoting the rumpless clean faced araucana. Even though the rumpless and tufted variation is the most complicated, I am glad that is what they chose for the standard. It is the most endearing!

Hi Rumbull, I love your cuckoos. I am hoping to get mine to darken up in the next generation. I am not sure how to get rid of the white earlobes. It pops up every once in a while in my birds. I don't typically use a bird for breeding if it has them because its just one more thing to fix, but this is the only bird I have gotten with this color red, and I want to see if I can get a few more. Later I will work on the earlobes if I continue with the color.

I hope to soon have an Araucana Poulterers Handbook also. I will know tomorrow for sure. Here's hoping. I love my Araucana Rings on their Ears book. I have notes all over it. Maybe someday people will feel the same way about my book if I ever finish it.

My 3 araucanas!
I have to separate them first before introducing them near the other chickens. They are awesome chickens!

That was my first thought also. Usually it's tufts that catch my eye and you sure do have some lovely tufts happening over there, but that's an awfully cute little rump bump on that girl - steals the show!
