I will keep a look out for chick down color. I know my hen tends to throw chicks with the same color as herself, but I don't think any of my chicks have hatched pure yellow yet.
I hatched a LOT of Bantam wheaten Araucana chicks last year out of a cross between mine and Mike Gilbert's lines and they were consistently colored like the chicks below. I could not tell the difference between them and my white chicks until they began to grow their first feathers. I guess you could call this white or you could call it yellow, or whitish yellow, but the key for me is that it is solid with no stripes, spots, or shading.
Ok so I hatched a batch of eggs I got from a breeder online. 5 lived. 3 are rumpless and two are not. Would you sell the tailed ones versus adding them to your future breeding pen?
Shanshan, while I personally don't have anymore tailed Araucanas in my flock, I'd be waiting to see what sex they mature to before making the decision to breed or not. Were you lucky enough to get any chicks with tufts?
Stacy, do you still have the chick pictured? How did it turn out? It has a very regal carriage in the picture and am wondering if it turned out as nice as the chick pic seems to indicate.
