Araucana thread anyone?

Yes, exactly like EE's as both are commonly found with duckwing type colorations. 5 weeks is a good start, 6 weeks is easy-peasy, and from there on it just gets like a sore thumb.

Ok here they are. Hard to take pics of the first one, but I think it's a boy anyways. :)

All are NYD hatch chicks, so almost 10 weeks. I plan on keeping one of the boys, with luck.

First one - I think this one's a boy - has a pinker comb, three rows. There's an obvious EE (?) roo in the pen with him, so have noticed no crowing.

Second one. No pink in the comb yet but a bit of orange in the wing. Torn on this one. What do you guys think? If this is a boy, it looks to be the prettiest one out of the three. Comb on this pic looks pinker than in real life.

So far guessing girl on this one, just a plain black ball. :)

i knew the comb on 3 was the way, and i suspected it was color on 4 which is why i asked. i saw a learning opportunity!

thanks, illa. as always, you're awesome.

2 is a definite girl, 3 is a girl too.

#1 now a little word of advice here, the best way to sex black, blue, splash, orange, red, or other solid colored birds by that age is actually by telling the little baby starts of saddle feathers coming in. Check the back, not down at the rump, but right between the wings, and look for any shiny or triangular feathers, any that appear especially toothy at the tip. And especially any that are of a different shade or color. That is your ticket for a boy.

Thanks! I'll see if I can catch the little one tomorrow and check. It would be nice if I had two girls and a guy. Then I just have to choose between keeping my weird EE-something roo in there and the rumpy guy. =)

Pretty chicks!

The first may possibly be a Pyle. I honestly still want Coberdor to post more parent pics

Because I've seen one chick pic of hers that looks like a Pyle, I've got a solid white from her, so it appears she has some dominant white floating around the flock, mixing in with the duckwings.

But, it could be something else too. Either way it is duckwing based.

Second one is a beautiful duckwing of the sorts, either a silver female or a pure gold/bbr type either gender. I know that clashes with my earlier saying about silver chicks but I do find some silvers, females at least, to be nice and brown like that however they also tend to be splits for wheaten, so,

It's a duckwing, that's what is for sure. And not a golden.

The third one is a splash, yes. When fully dry if you notice an odd patch on the head or neck especially with a flash photo it's a splash cuckoo. Time will tell.

Actually, I have just one hen who is a red pyle. I'll have to get more pics of her. The little yellow might be one of the buff hens. I have two buff hens.

I was busy building a new breeder tractor/coop. I won't move it around until the weather is better.

I had to pull my young roosters out of my pullet pen. They have gotten way too rough, just in the past few days and several of the pullets are bare backed. My bator is full, with eggs waiting till next weekend's hatch.

Ill take more picks of the parents and post pics.

I just set 95 eggs in my incubator from my own pens over the last week. It is about time. This weekend I hatched a silvery creme chick with no markings at all, out of my birchen and duckwing pen. The birchen roo is a Silver birchen X Silver duckwing and the hen is a silver duckwing. It is a big double tufted robust chick.

I feel like I am finally seeing the light, where I am hatching more chicks worth keeping. I am at a point now where when I cull for day olds it is for cleanfaced chicks and those with tails. I am only keeping the tufted ones, to grow out an evaluate. It feels pretty good.

I sold a dozen hatching eggs to a lady and shipped her 13 ( it was a slow week for eggs here) and 6 chicks hatched with several of them being tufted. I feel so good about that. I am always nervous when I am waiting to see how eggs I have sold will fare.

I hope all your hatching dreams come true.
