Araucana thread anyone?

How funny.. I wanted Araucanas and ended up with Ameracaunas from the feed store

Trust me you didn't get Ameraucanas either. Ameraucanas are just as hard to find as Araucanas, and are just as falsely claimed so by mutt sellers like hatcheries and feedstores. You have Easter Eggers.

Cackle Hatchery is advertising "Easter Egg Chickens
(Ameraucanas)". Just copied that off their ad. I love my little easter eggers, but I wished I'd known before I bought them. At least they are all pullets.

I have a funny oops chick here- too bad some of you who are into experimentation aren't here to take it. Sort of a duckwingish color, frizzled with 2 large bilateral tufts, no tail, but a tiny crest. I have a black Polish/araucana frizzle who free- ranges and clearly I hatched one of her blue eggs by mistake.

Many hatcheries advertise that they have Ameraucanas and Araucanas (or call their Easter Eggers Americanas), but they don't actually have either of those breeds. What they have is a mish mash bird that may carry the blue egg gene, but can have any trait. While Ameraucanas are easier to breed than Araucanas, no large commercial hatchery sells them, still. So even if a hatchery claims to have them, they are giving you false information.

That's fantastic! Frizzled with tufts!! That's not something ya see everyday. We need pics!!!!!!

Just wanted to show off a little... these are my hatch from corborder! I got 7 in all, 1 great tufted, 2 single tufted, and the rest cleanfaced and all beautiful.

This USED to be a nice bi-laterally tufted one until somebody got tuft envy! This is Edith.

I love this one - VERY friendly and curious. My 3 year old named it Blackbeard.

Same chick...

This is Chickpea, also very sweet and quite petite.

Another single tuft. This one is beefy!

And just for fun check out my guinea's eyelashes!!! This was taken right before she decided to take me out. They are NOT fond of human contact!

I'm pretty close, but I bet it's a bantam right?
