Araucana thread anyone?

Kass, I think this Wheaten/BBR is a male also. I sure got mainly tails, no tufts and males from this hatch

. Do you all think this 1st one is male judging by his more uneven coloring? There's only a couple girls in the batch, the rest ALL boys.
Also, here's this one I wasn't sure of the color of a few wks back. The color is so cool looking, gray, buff & white splash on the wings and then her breast is coming in buff. I guess the trade off for so many tailed boys is that I got this really cool girl, huh?? One was taken in the shade and one was with flash.
ETA: They're 5 wks now.
Pick 1 is not wheaten, its wild type with melanizers. Wheaten wont have an eye strip. It looks like a pullet to me. The other two picks look like blue buff columbians to me and not sure of gender but am guessing pullet also. I have two of similar age and they are darker buff columbian and very definately roos. The color is lovely in all of them.

Lanae, I'll have to go look up Blue Buff Columbian, I certainly never heard of that color before. The 2 pics are of the same bird, I've loved this color since this bird hatched. I've always pegged her for a girl also. I hope you're right about the wild type being pullet also!
Maybe I don't have as many boys as I thought, because the known males have definite 3 rowed combs. The others are getting slightly red but they're definite single rows.
We shall see.

Blue buff columbian is just buff columbian with the blue gene I believe. My buff columbians are way more reddish orange and yours is a lighter buffier color which is why I was thinking blue. I know my blue wheaten hen is much lighter than my regular wheaten, which made me think your pullet was blue also.

Mine doesn't like blue genes, they prefer khaki's.

Heres an update of my little blue pullet! I'm most proud of her :D The camera doesn't seam to capture her lacing very well but she has very nice consistent lacing! fingers crossed she lays a nice blue egg lol. I have a promising black tufted cockerel to pair her with next spring, I can already see their babies lol.

I too am having a heavy cockerel season. I've been hatching steadily since early spring and I just don't have much to show for it i feel, and its very disappointing :(

That is a lovely blue, Sybie!!
Believe me, if there was a reliable way to get more girls with temperature, the commercial poultry industry would be doing it. They still have to euthanize at least 50% males. What DOES affect the sex ratio is how good you are at incubation. This year, learning to use my new incubator, I had close to 95% males. This is because the weaker females died and never hatched. Under broody hens, however, I got a nice 50:50 mix. All the females I have this year came from those few broody hens. Thank goodness for nature. At the very end of my hatching season, I decided to dump all the instructions for my Sportsman and just do a dry hatch. Then, wouldn't you know it, I finally got some girls.
