It's just the name that was given to this cross. Looking at the older chicks in the sun, there is definitely a purplish mauve cast to the darker feathering on the back that borders on burgundy. I don't know if my Araucana cross chicks will be exactly like the one on the European web site when mature. Could be a little different and I am seeing a little difference in the chick down so it's going to be fun to see them grow up. As "always" I can't wait for springInteresting, I don't see "mauve" but the color is pretty, it probably reads better in person, the camera and computer monitor can play tricks w/ colors.
