Are 1-2 week old chciks OK to buy instead of day olds?

Morning all!

I may have the opportunity to pick up 1-2 week old chicks from the hatchery this week, it's not much of a drive from here - the 3 breeds I'm wanting are Stars, Americanas and Buff Orpingtons (unless that is a bad combo???) Please tell me if this is a bad idea or if there are implications in doing this instead of buying day-olds.

Thank you!

The only thing available at our local feed store is 2-week-olds, and we have never had any problems. Those breeds seem okay.

I see nothing wrong with getting week old chicks as long as they are not shipped. The breeds you selected sound fine together also.

Thanks Apyl....man I'm excited....

I love picking chicks up straight from the feed store, I get to pick the ones I want. I've usually got no clue what I'm doing when I do that, but it's a bit of fun nonetheless!

It will be a little less nerve wrecking the day olds. Might take a little longer to get them used to interacting with them but they are still young. Mine didn't like being handled the first few weeks anyway.
