Most of my reading said candle approximately on days 8, 14 and 18 (right before lockdown), that you don't want to lockdown any eggs that could be rotten and break. Some people said they sniff the eggs, too. That a rotten one will smell. That said, I skipped the day 8 candling because my eggs had dark and thick shells and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to see just the blood vessels. I might do the first one the next time.
If your eggs are white shelled you can see blood vessels inside at day 4 already but be careful not to tilt and turn the egg too much or you could kill the embryo. Some blue and brown eggs are difficult at day 14. Marans eggs are nearly impossible at any stage.
The eggs in question on this thread are definitely no good. The real question is, why? Was there no roo with the hens, only one roo with 30 hens, did the eggs get too cold, did someone wash the eggs, was the incubator warm enough ? Let's investigate so we don't lose a chicken enthusiast to discouragement.
I just thought i would let you knw that its the 21st day and i can hear peeping. Also, do you think that it is piping cuz i don't see any movement i just hear it. Lastly I don't have a fan in there so is it safe as far as oxygen goes.
It looks to me like those eggs might have veins but then stopped growing. Could something have gone wrong with your incubator?
Maybe we're wrong, the only way to find out is to keep the eggs in there and see if they hatch. I'm hoping we're wrong. It's always sad when they don't hatch.
That's cool if you hear peeping, let us know how many hatch. When mine were on day 18 the egg was all dark and could only see the air cell. Guess it's just hard to tell from pictures. Good Luck.
You ain't hearing peeping from any of the eggs you posted pics of. At day 20, you should not be able to see light penetrating any major portion of the egg EXCEPT the air cell. Unless you're playing with the eggs, your camera, and photo shop, those eggs are showing too much light. The eggs you took pictures of, are NOT viable.
I bought 12 eggs from my local farmers market. he didn't wash or refrigerate them. also I think it ties in when he said it should take 28 days to incubate. Is this a possibility? I can hear peeping but i don't see piping
