Are any of these alive? (PICS INCLUDED)

What breed did he tell you the eggs where?
Did he also tell you how fresh the eggs were?
Did he also tell you that they should be fertile eggs?

Sorry for all of the questions, just trying to get as much information as we can to help determine what might have happened to the eggs that seem to be "clear".

yah he told us they were RIRs and that they had been laid within the past week. Haven't been refrigerated or washed and were fertile. I put them into incubation about 3 days after i received them. Im assuming the issue lays within the rooster being too old or young or whatever. Thanks and no problem about the questions your helping me so I'll give you as many answers as possible. Also, I only hear one peeping so if only one hatches won't it be lonely? It's my first time so i have no other chickens to put it with. Also i am planning on having another batch hatching in about a month so if I place them with each other won't they be territorial because the one hatching today will be spoiled.

From my understanding the age of the egg will also determine more on hatchability, the rooster is probably doing his job, but after 7 days of being laid you will lose viability. The one that you hear may not be the only one that you have, don't give up on the others yet.

I believe you are correct in assuming it will be lonely. If you can find anothr baby to put with it, I would. But you may get that out of your other five eggs.

I do not know how it would be to add younger chicks with the one that hatches.

I only have one RIR and I did not hatch it, but I do not believe that they would take longer to hatch, you should be within 21-24 mayb 26 days, I would think.

Do you have your eggs lying flat in the incubator? Did you use an automatic turner or did you turn the eggs yourself?

I did not see if your incubator is homemade or if it is commercial? I does seem to hol humidity well.

I wish you all the best, with your hatch(es).

If you hear one peeping then that's a chick...If you don't smell anything then your eggs have not rotted to the point that you need to pull them...There are a few ones here that have had late hatches, I am one of them...I had a chick hatch on day 23 and there is someone else who had one hatch on day 27!!! It does not happen often and it does not always happen without some problems but it does happen..

That said, the pics you posted do not look like eggs on their 20th day, furthermore, it looks like you are candling upside down (pointy end up) I was told to never do that, it could harm the embryo (for future reference)

If only one hatches, yes you will need to purchase at least one more chick (check your local feed and farm stores) they are already selling in my area.
Give it another 24 hours and see what happens...Hands off, leave the bator shut and be patient

I will agree a few of them look like they have some slight veining, waiting will not change anything. Incubating eggs is not the same as baking a cake. It will not finish cooking just because you leave it in the oven longer. At 21 days, the eggs are no longer viable, and should be taken care of if you have any other eggs in the incubator, to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria. Here's a helpful chart explaining what eggs should look like at different stages of candling. I realize it says "duck" in the picture, but it's the exact same with chickens, only they take 21 days, not 28.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but incubation is a learning process. Once you get the hang of it, it's a lot of fun to see the different stages of development, and a very rewarding experience! Good luck with the next batch.

There are several of us here who have in fact had late hatches, I had one hatch on day 23...Not pip on day 21 and take two days, but fully pip and hatch on day 23...there is another poster who had a chick hatch 6 days late...

I believe this was day 19 of incubation

And on day 23....

and then....

gave the little lonely chick to a friend who was purchasing more chicks.... I refilled the incubator and set myself a task to NOT allow it to run at lower temperatures again.. I lost 15 other eggs because of it, 2 more hatched but died with 24 hours.. The little one above was just a miracle

For the few moments it takes to candle them, being upside-down is fine. Especially when you have to shine the light through the air cell to really see much, and if you're using any kind of stationary light that the egg sits on top of, you have no choice but to turn it upside down.

But it won't hurt the chick to be like that for just a few minutes.

Ok, that's good to know, My Candler is stationary , my dads old slide projector...It will make it easier when the egg is full to be able to carefully turn it upside down to check it..
Thanks!

If you hear peeping, by all means keep them in the bator. Just putting this out there: those pics look exactly like mine did on day 15. None of them hatched (later found out that the bator temp was too low).
Tell us if some make it
