Are bantam breeds better suited for indoor setups?

If someone is really into this (like actively doing it, not just “thinking” about it) please start your own indoor chicken thread. Then people who are into that sort of thing have a place to catalog their journey, discuss foraging for lost popcorn in the couch, roosting on kitchen chairs, how to get chicken poop off your pillow and what to do when your chicken eats a Tide Pod. Then the rest of us who are clearly so negative can learn from your experience just how joyful house chickens are. And we can stop seeing these same dead end threads.

Finches and parakeets are not as cuddly or suitable as a lap pet as a chicken will be.
If you're looking for a cuddly pet that's a bit different than your usual cat or dog, try looking into rats! The males, specifically, can be very snuggly. They're fun to keep (and MUCH cleaner than chickens), plus they benefit from a lot of the same enrichment items that chickens do.

As much as I detest Facebook, there are FB groups dedicated to raising indoor chickens. It is a much better forum for this type of thing because the groups are private, and the debbie downers can't butt in. YES it does create an echo chamber, but OP will actually be able to get a response from people who have indoor chickens and *enjoy* it.

Oh I’m well aware. That’s why there needs to be a thread on here where us “downers” won’t “butt in” because no one is asking us anything. This is the problem with these threads-someone posts a general question to a general forum and then gets upset with the answers they receive. Because they don’t want answers-they want reassurance and validation for themselves. If it were about the wellbeing of the chicken these threads would go another direction but they usually end up turning into an argument over hurt feelings and getting shut down. So, because this is not a Facebook echo chamber, the next best thing is an indoor chicken thread. If indoor chicken keeping is so magical why are the Facebook groups private? And why isn’t there a thread here so we can all see it and make up our own minds?

ehh, many groups are private to prevent spammers and scammers.

I've come across threads in the past, but I'm too stupid to use the Search function and can't seem to find them again.
The best I can find is this very old thread about Potty Training chickens, most of the participants have indoor chickens: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/potty-training-chickens-how-to.125001/

I think a lot of them end up getting deleted because they descend into chaos 😆 But we have baking threads, gardening threads, SOP threads, etc. I see no reason we can’t have one specific to indoor chickens. People here are pretty respectful. I don’t think anyone would go in there just to be a jerk.

If they do our wonderful mods would quickly sort that out

You mean a separate forum? People have been lobbying to have a forum created for disabled chickens, with no success. That would have been the closest thing to a safe-space for indoor chickens. I don't think the moderators want to add more forums. Besides, this website is called backyardchickens.

No just a dedicated thread.
