As you pointed out, any thread about indoor chickens inevitably descends into chaos, and gets deleted. I assume the reason Meat Birds got its own entire forum was to discourage naysayers from inserting their opinions on animal welfare. No just a dedicated thread.
You’re not picking up what I’m putting down. The threads that descend into chaos are ones where someone is planning on getting a chicken and keeping it indoors and wants general advice about doing so. The advice they get is generally “don’t do it.” Chaos ensues. If someone who has house chickens or wants them starts a thread dedicated to that so that when people search the site they will find that it would be more productive and private. Here is an example of what I mean:As you pointed out, any thread about indoor chickens inevitably descends into chaos, and gets deleted. As much as I detest Facebook, there are FB groups dedicated to raising indoor chickens. It is a much better forum for this type of thing because the groups are private, and the debbie downers can't butt in. YES it does create an echo chamber, but OP will actually be able to get a response from people who have indoor chickens and *enjoy* it.
To be fair, backyard chickens, not indoor chickens. Has anyone asked the mods if there can be a separate forum so the “Debbie downers” (not a snide description of people concerned about an animal’s health AT ALL) won’t be inclined to answer questions posted in forums intended for regular outdoor chickens? You mean a separate forum? People have been lobbying to have a forum created for disabled chickens, with no success. That would have been the closest thing to a safe-space for indoor chickens. I don't think the moderators want to add more forums. Besides, this website is called backyardchickens.
No, I know what you're saying. There have been threads started by people who already have house chickens, but those descend into chaos as well. This is not a great example, but it's the best I could find after a quick search: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/damp-moist-wall-in-my-chicken-room.1469729/You’re not picking up what I’m putting down. That’s too bad, because as long as they are in the general forum, I think people who worry about the welfare of chickens kept inside are going to say so.I know, that is why I suggested that people who want indoor chickens go join a private Facebook group. The FB groups that I (briefly) joined are also worried about the welfare of chickens, extremely so. Like they rearrange their homes and lives to accommodate a chicken 24/7, schedule playdates and such. I had serious concerns about the mental health of some of these people, and had to leave lest I become a "debbie downer".That’s too bad, because as long as they are in the general forum, I think people who worry about the welfare of chickens kept inside are going to say so.
I don't know anything about if bantam roos are quiet or not, but I have used a "no-crow-collar" on a rooster of mine (Black Australorp), and, although it might have made it a little quieter, it did not STOP him from crowing. Even with it on, he will still crow, but it will sound weird, and less loud, but it would probably still wake you up if you were in the same room.I also heard that bantam roosters are less noisy than regular roosters and that the No-Crow-Collar will prevent crowing.
Maybe something more targeted like a thread in this forum would be what I am thinking:There have been threads started by people who already have house chickens, but those descend into chaos as well
