Hey y’all, it’s currently beautyberry season down south so and we have lots and lots of beautyberry bushes that o have planted over the years so I can make jam and other such things. I’ve never seen any of my domesticated birds eat beauty berries the chickens tend to avoid them, and when I had turkeys, they had no interest in them only one or two of my pigs, eat them too however Crackers was sitting in the golf cart with me and found a couple scattered beauty berries from my pickings earlier this morning She immediately began eating them, which is surprising because the only thing Crackers eats besides grass and feed is peas. As it seems that crackers is a pan. I was wondering if they are safe for her to eat and if she was just going after them because they look like little purple peas. Below is a picture of what a beauty bear looks like. And Goose tax.

These things are all over and around our property. They're awful on their own, but they do make great jelly! I know Cardinals love them.

That said, I do think they can cause stomach upset for other types of birds for which beautyberry isn't a part of their natural diet. I don't think they're toxic, however.
