Are Cheetos organic?

My sister's boys are 7th generation dairy farmers on the original farmstead. The road is named after the family. The main room of the original house and the dry-cow barn are over 200 years old (with huge hand-hewn beams ... VERY cool!)

Crop farmers may be doing well over the past couple of decades, but not the small dairyman. Have you seen the price of milk, lately? Family farmers can't make a living selling milk, anymore. But ... it's in my BIL's blood and he's passed that love on to his boys. They run about 400 head, down from 600 a few years ago (see "price of milk" for reasons!) They probably milk about 200+. The rest are all replacement heifers of various ages and a dozen or so steers.

In an effort to expand beyond the unstable (and dubiously profitable) milk industry, they're now making and selling their own cheese under the name Chesapeake Gold Farms.

That pretty lady on the main page is Beauty ... if you scratch her topknot, she'll follow you around the field like a big puppy! I know I'm shamelessly marketing, but it really is good stuff - and now they're making dog treats, too ... and they ship!

yeah, all or most of the dairy farms around here went out in the 80s or 90s...along with family hog and layer farms

my point on 3rd generation farms was more about how the large family farms that are profitable around here came to be so

In most cases it is the middleman who is making the money not the farmer....as I said, those that do are few and far between....and your right, I am the landowner and I contract it out. I don't do the actual labor but pay my share for the seed, fertilizer, harvesting and all of the up keep/maintenance of the wells...I have 4 wells on the property. 2 irrigation systems that he uses, I own the irrigation systems and have a lease agreement he pays me for the use of them. He moves them from one well to the other, at his own expense and labor.
Modern day sharecropper.

that’s really interesting

the only arrangements like that around here that I’m aware of would be with custom hay baling.

Most land owners that lease out for row crops or cattle grazing do it as a straight per acre rate.

or occasionally with smaller operations, a split yield profit arrangement for row crops. But even then the land owner is not paying for seed, amendments or spray.

no it was just a silly joke... I know almost nothing of Mr. Alda... but I liked MASH and the Scientific American show that he hosted in the ??? 90s maybe
I know it's just being funny ... I was responding in kind, but it doesn't always come off that way in print. I was raised on M*A*S*H - and my kids love it, too. DD & I actually sat and watched all 11 seasons of it, in order, a couple of years ago. It took us three years to do it (as long as the Korean War actually lasted) but the bonding time was awesome ... and now I have someone to play MASH Trivia with!
Alda has an interesting history, BTW. His parents were Vaudeville performers, so he was raised backstage by chorus girls and comics. The book is funny, but kinda sad. Still ... it explains a lot!

ahhh... now I’m jealous... I wish I was raised by comics and chorus girls! 🙂

I think I’d like to watch all the MASH episodes in order some time... maybe all the Magnum PIs too 🤔

I've ordered the entire MacGyver series for Christmas ... if it ever gets here. It's already a week and a half late. I searched all summer for it - finally found it "used, like new" for an insanely reasonable price online. My kids won't care that it's "previously viewed." They've only seen a few episodes, but they're hooked. It'll be fun!

Alright Crew ... it's nearly midnight here, so I'm gonna turn in. I just got the last depressing news I can take for one day. I just got a message from Church cancelling all in-person Christmas and New Years services. I think I just might have to cry myself to sleep, tonight.
This SO stinks!
