Honestly, I don't think that any particular animal is dumb or not - not that you mean that, but I'm simply saying so

I know that many people think that Chickens are dumb though - which irks me every time I hear it. I say that the more you interact with any animal, and the more attention you give to them, the more they can learn, and the more that they can treat you as one of their own - i.e. love. I think animals are just like humans. All you have to do is watch and learn from them. Or, look in their eyes and they will tell you everything they are thinking.

If I am seen by my girls, they will literally start chatting away, calling out to me. Mine aren't as affectionate as the others that I've read on here - they weren't hand raised by me, but I got them around a year of age - but when I am out there cleaning their coop every day thye love to come over and nibble at the things I have on, or at my hands. They love helping me dig holes in the ground to help them forage for worms, etc.

One of mine is certainly capable of affection. I had felt that I had not handled them enough as very young chicks and now they are 9 weeks old, been in their coop/run outside now for about a week. Today, one flew up and sat on my shoulder. She looked very pleased with herself and just wanted to sit there. That's a first but they all seem to enjoy a little pat on the back and I think I am their entertainment as well as the food provider.

So I don't think you're crazy, the chickens love you.

I couldn't agree more!!! Some people, even people who have animals, just don't take the opportunity to really study and interact and yes, create a relationship with their animals. Those folks are missing an awful lot whether they have dogs, cats, horses, chickens, whatever.

I believe they are. Mine come running when they see or hear me too!! But I am always bringing them treats!!

I have a few 7 week olds that are a little skittish but I have only had them for a couple of weeks, so they are just getting used to me. My roo definitely has a personality all his own, he is like a wild teenager! but when I pick the hens up and hold them they just sit in my lap and love me!! I love them so much!
