are large docile chicken breeds friendlier and better around people then homer pigeons?
which bird are better for holding and picking up?

Personally with my experience- ANY breed of chicken, even the "flighty" ones can be much more friendly than pigeons. It just takes socialization, care, and lots of attention from chickhood on. I have a crested polish who is so friendly, she allows the weirdest of stranger pet her, pick her up, she'll even fly on up to your shoulder and rest there, and so on. Even our goats have an easier time trying to eat her!

But, there are a couple breeds that just don't come through (Wyandottes for me. . .) and some that are generally better. Such as the really big breeds like Brahmas. They're suuuch sweethearts!
