So I have a Cuckoo Maran chick, and I thought I heard about them being auto sexing? I am interested to know if this is true or not. It said that the girls have a distinguishable white spot on the heads, whereas the boy's spots aren't as clear. Also something about boys being darker?
My Cuckoo Maran doesn't have any white spot... only a tiny brown tint at the top of his/her head.
Anyone successfully been able to sex Cuckoo Marans at such a young age? Mine is coming up to a week.

Also, mine has a flat comb. Not sure if it's pea or rose. I've never seen Cuckoo Marans with this type of comb? Only with a single comb.
Is this something they do get?

I'll add a couple photos of her/him because why not.

That's a silver laced Wyandotte, not a Cuckoo Marans.

I'm sorry, what?
I bought them from someone who was selling Light Sussex, Cuckoo Marans, Welsummer and Buff orpington. I don't think they even have Wyandottes.
And the feathers that are starting do look like marans.
I do see that the chick looks like a Wyandotte....hope you're wrong.

It has a rose comb, & no headspot.
Cuckoo Marans have a head spot, & a single comb.

I have seen the photos on the internet, and they really do look like him. Just contacted the seller. He wasn't even selling SL Wyandottes.
Thanks for your help.
I don't suppose SL Wyandottes are auto sexing?

Silver laced Wyandotte cockerels chicks are usually a abit lighter in color then the females. Comb width is also an indicator of sex. If the comb is broad then it's most likely a male, if it's more slim, it's most likely a female.

With some backyard breeders their flicks get mixed up...a rooster gets to another hen. I find they sell you based on hen breed...my personal experience.
I have gotten chicks from feed stores that were not the breed I was buying...it happens.

I chose out of about 8 chicks. They all looked the same. Not that I looked that hard. I knew if I didn't choose quickly and go I'd be wanting to buy them ALL.

So do you think he could be Maran/Wyandotte cross??

I love this chick already. Who cares what he is. But I did kind of want a Maran.
I bought a LS too but he definitely seems to be one.
