Are gray chickens rare?

What was the chart you found? I would like to see the info you mentioned. I too know nothing about genetics, but I’m very interested.
These are what I looked at.

Though that's kind of strange. Her eggs should have hatched 100% blue with the old rooster. Then again he was - I don't know what he was. The barred rock chicks we got from that lady weren't and I don't have any of them anymore.

I don't know. The hen should have slightly better breeding. We have a number of different roosters right now. If anybody goes broody in the next week or so maybe I'll give them some of her eggs and see what happens.

Generally we don't plan to keep any of the chicks we hatch - with the exception of a nice RIR/BO pullet that I think might make a nice laying hen.

Our run is not that big so we can't just keep every one that looks cute or whatever. My husband hatches them for meat.

Blue doesn't breed true. When you cross two blues, you get Blue, Black, and Splash

Your too is a beaut. It is fun mixing up breeds to see what you can come up with. A couple of years ago, I did some mixing and got some EE mixed hens that are some of my best layers. I have four of them, and I get at least 3 out of 4 if not 4 of there eggs a day. One is all white. One is white with blue. One is white, red and lavender. And the last one is white, red, and porcelain.

I was just looking where it says a splash hen with a black rooster gives 100% blue? But then I have no idea what that (mostly black) rooster really was. That's one reason I switched out for the BO.
Weird, that doesn't sound right
Btw - your avatar is an Andalusia blue? I just saw those for the first time. The hens look really nice to me.
Yup, he's one of my Blue Andalusians

Sounds like fun. :) We got really good utility hens on the farm by breeding for that. Every once in awhile a real beauty would pop up. I had one with pretty laced feathers - kind of creamy reddish - and green legs ... and my husband got up early one day and accidentally grabbed her when he was slaughtering. I'm still a little mad over that lol. I named her Willow.

I've only had two EEs - one died as a chick the first day and the other developed the worst crossbeak I've ever seen. She could only really eat if I hand-fed her. Eventually we put her down because we were just sad for her. But I had hoped to have some interesting egg colors. Sounds like you had a good mix. :)
