Are illegal immigrants a BIG issue where you live?

Just thought I would put in my 2 cents. Yes, our country has a lot of problems. I am not minimizing anyone's concerns, we are all free to worry about whatever we choose. That said, I am descended from people who came to this country and were persecuted. I am descended from Italians who were scoffed at as 2nd rate citizens when they first arrived. I am descended from Mormons, and I think we all know what they went through. Some of my best friends in high school were a hispanic, a gay and an exchange student from South Africa. They are all outstanding, wonderful people. It is easy to fall into the "find someone to blame for all of our problems" way of thinking, but I am trying to teach my children to see all people as unique individuals, not as "hispanics", "blacks or "asians" etc...

My great great great great great grandmother was a Mormon who walked from Navoo, Il to Salt Lake City (before it was a city), pregnant and carrying her toddler on her back. At times she helped to pull a hand cart. Persecution based on religion (or lack thereof), color, legal status in the US, or any other charecteristic like it is wrong, and makes me sick. Lets worry more about the people who are harming others. Just MHO.

Good topics going here folks. You all are very thoughtful and mature enough to get this forum going!

I have nothing against any Hispanic folks who respect and abide by our country and what we are made of. However I do not like any race, creed or sex to go the other way to get some "freebies" from our government or make a bad name for yourselves (to the "bad guys") and ruin for those who really need it (WIC, food stamps, etc). Like myself, got terminated from a job of ten years due to downsizing, just found out that we were expecting our first child, no health insurance unless I pay COBRA with unemployment benefits, on WIC, no food stamps at that time, going to food pantries and prior to losing my job, we were making plans of getting married. Well I was glad to get all that stuff in the time of need and now we are not getting WIC, food stamps, raiding pantries, donations, and paying some premiums on our All Kids programs, that is a great start and felt like we have done alot with so little we had even to my bankruptcy which I had lost everything, my house, truck, credit cards, etc and start back up again with a bigger house, better cars, wonderful chickens and a hubby that tried so hard to get jobs in between even Firestone Tire company went belly up and very high unemployment going on. Now, its time for us to pass the welfare help to another mother or family that needs it the most.

I got a few choice words about Public Aid.....aint going to say it in here because I dont need to have more kids to get more benefits. I am white and I made my own decision to have my tubes tied.....like the others should do after three to four kids or more when they are still on welfare. What happened to birth control, sex education, life education (balancing checkbooks, finding employments, etc)????? Something is wrong with the picture in our country. You come in the country illegially, go back and get your green card and come in here legal like! Dont forget some of our German, Polish, Scottish ancestors had to go thru Ellis Island...................all the tests and poking and prodding or any blemish may take you back to your motherland.....they have suffered enough getting here and did prosper so those illegials (regardless of race, reglion, etc) should go thru proper channels to become a proper upstanding Americans!!!!!!! Hats off to those who DOES care!!!!!!!!!

why is it turning a "racial" thing,, when its a LEGAL thing?, just because i cant stand illegal immagrants,, doesnt mean im raciast against germans, mexicans, or even canadians,, i dont like illegals,,,all else no matter what race, is another person to me,, an illegal is a law breaker,,,,2 totally different issues, and its hard to talk about an issue, if others are talking about a total different 1.
"open ,indness" is great when talking about "race" but is totally wrong when talking about abiding by the law.

Oh yeah youre right! I have a deep dislike for those "career" welfare folks....sorry but one of my cousin is like that and the whole family shun her most of the time because she said she deserved to be ON welfare and its a free country! So she ended up getting six kids total when the welfare told her to stop or they will not pay for the next baby she will end up having. Now she is a mental case!
