Are illegal immigrants a BIG issue where you live?

If you haven't seen the movie I mentioned above, it's worth a look. It is somewhat facetious, but makes some good points. Among other things, it shows how not everyone who has brown skin is Mexican (or illegal for that matter).

Although I'm really bad at it, I'd love to learn another language. Why are we so upset about a second language. I'm in awe of those who can speak a number of languages. Somehow people seem to associate being a 'good' American with speaking the language. It's really hard to learn a new language. It typically comes with the second generation - give these folks a chance.

I was so surprised to read the church records from 1850 in which they stated that for >50 years the language spoken in the southern Catskill Mtns was totally German. I think that this happened throughout our country in little pockets. The world was smaller then and others weren't aware of it. And people didn't travel around like they need to do today.

I'm not saying it is for everyone, I was just struck by those saying they saw illegals coming from a construction site, or shopping at Wal-Mart.

When we (military) would go to another country, we were briefed as to the customs and values of that country - and ordered to respect them. Who is educating people from Mexico (or other countries) as to the "way things are done here"? Maybe, and I'm getting this from the fella's reaction to his girlfriend being arrested for using a deceased person's SSN), they are educated incorrectly - maybe we'd do better to be certain they know "the real scoop"....don't complain or hate - get to know people and help!

Everone that is contributing to the numbers on post #23

do u know how many us born whites are on welfare, on food stamps on housing, do u consider them illegal?

Nope, there are plenty of legal citizens who are a drain on society. The numbers in post #23 specifically address illegals.

Welfare needs to be reformed, period. If you can't prove that you are actively looking for a job, or have a true medical reason for not being able to work, you get so much help and then that's it. Having a baby is not a blanket reason to give someone more money.

Also when you speak about a country you capitalize the first letter or all the letters if it is an abbreviation. It is America, US, or USA.

You are free to continue speaking your native tongue or the tongue of your ancestors, but the public language is english.

BIG QUSTION PLEASE,- WHO CONSIDERS WHICH RACES OF LATINOS ILLEGALE. PLEASE TELL ME WHICH LATINOS ARE ILLEGAL. Thanks

Illegals are those who come across borders, fake paperwork, or permits run out and they stay anyway - not updating or leaving.....you can't tell by looking at someone and they aren't just latinos. Mexicans make up the majority due to the location of Mexico to the USA, but they aren't all Mexican and not all Mexicans are illegal.

thank u!
we can look @ it this way to (playing devils advocate for a moment) during the Great depression who was discriminated against the most? All of the migrant workers who lost farms in the mid west and that went to Cali to get work! They were hated because they were cheap labor and accused of stealing local jobs. These people were hated in their own country! When the economy sucks we need someone to blame.
