My opinion varies a bit from some of the others.
My relatives came here in the early 1800s and found their way over time and with the help of other existing Americans as was written in some of their earliest records. They spoke the language (some were German) of their original country for a number of years. (church records say 50yrs) All loved their families and fought in all American wars.
I know that there was a great deal of prejudice about my religion and nationalit(ies). It was quite hard for them to move through those sillies labels.
I now feel very priviledged from many aspects... and pass that along to my children and grandchildren.
Aside from the growing numbers of people on this earth, how different is today's experience from my family's?
I am in support of latinos and other immigrants and their efforts to work hard for their money. Though in many cases, they may not be 'legal', aren't they all members of our world and loved by our God? I don't think he's drawing any lines.
I do believe that there should be 'enforced' rules and laws, but I think we should support those that are now here. They have come here out of desperation... willing to work and fight for their way in our world. What a terrible situation it must have been that forced them to leave their homes and families in order to survive.
My two cents. Have at it.
ps both my town and another nearby town are now 1/3 latino
