Are illegal immigrants a BIG issue where you live?

Thank you, Fowl-Language, for saying exactly what I wanted to say.

When I lived in Montana there were a lot of Mexican workers around. They worked hard, right alongside my husband. And I'd bet the farm they weren't illegals.

I used to work at a tax service and I would guess about 10 illegals a year would come in to file taxes ( filing for 3 years was a reqirement of green card) and try to use someone else's SS number they would bring in w-2 in one name and ss in another.

I visited a friend in California several years ago, and we watched one morning as trucks came & went to pick up Mexican workers for day labor. My friend (Caucasian, as am I) told me that most (if not all) of them were legal. Sad to watch.

Which ever Presidential candidate, and steps forward and says I WILL enforce the laws of our land, I will vote for. Something has to be done about this.

I don't think anyone said that all Hispanics are illeagal? My best friend is Mex/Amer her fam's been here about as long as mine. It's not a race issue for everyone. It ticks her off too. Now the racial discrimination she receives makes my blood boil!!! she's had some pretty offensive things said to her. And her husband is a Navy Corpsmen who has been on two tours of Iraq and Afghanistan! If any one deserves proper respect it's that fam! But i digress it's not a race thing for all it's a legal issue.

geareduplyn,

I been saying that for over a year now. I hope they will bring back the troops and put them on border control. I think enough is done in iraq but I could be wrong.

My husband is UAW and makes automotive parts. The plant where he works, he is in the minority and everyday I listen to stories about what the goverment funded work force gets away with at work. Because the goverement funds the company by tax breaking they don't want to fire their help for anything. They sign a paper upon employment that strictly states certain things they cannot do and these workers do them anyway because they know they cannot be fired but let any unfunded worker do it and out the door they go and this is a union plant. He is only one of few out in the plant that actually speaks english beside the mangement. The workers run the plant and it's infuriating to me and I don't even work there thank goodness. These are not just Mexican nationals either but people of all nationalities.

My husband used to work for a dairy farm as a shift leader and herdsman. He had a whole crew of mexican workers under him, who didn't speak any English. It was very frustrating for my husband because they would only speak in Spanish. They would say things to him and then laugh. He would try to assign them duties, and they would laugh.

Eventually my husband was put out of a job and one of the workers advanced to his position.

I cannot say if they were legal or not, we never asked.

I am not opposed to them legally working, but don't put hard working Americans with a family out of employment just so you can get cheap labor!

Thanks, everyone, for keeping this thread civil thus far. Let's keep it that way! This is a touchy subject for many.

<-- buying local and staying out of this debate

Try hiring an American to do some real work. They don't want to work, they steal your tools, they show up late, they complain all day long and when you finally get sick of it and fire them, they go whine to the unemployment folks and vandalize your property. It's happened to me more than once!!!
Most Latino immigrants pay taxes and never file a return. They rarely use government services for fear of being caught. Seriously folks, go out and talk to some of these people don't just swallow the idiotic drivel being fed to you by the media and politicians.
