Are illegal immigrants a BIG issue where you live?

I am not against ANYONE being in this country - I served this country for 20yrs in the Navy and I believe we are all in this together, brothers/sisters in Christ (including those who don't believe) - but, if a person is using one SSN to get benefits and another SSN to get work, doesn't that say something about that person's character - no matter their skin color/heritage? But, you can't tell by looking at someone if they are doing this. (I know of some US born caucasians that are illegally ripping off the system). I heard on the news that someone was arrested for using a SSN of a deceased person. Her "friend" wanted to know 'since when is that illegal?' Duh!? I do agree with "learn the language". Not all at once - it takes time, but if you've been in the U.S 12 yrs, you should be able to speak English. And, anywhere you go, you should be respectful of the land, its people, laws, and values.

I do agree with the "illegals" needing to be legal to work here. I agree that their children get the benifits of living here as americans so far as school and healthcare. I agree that something needs to be done.

But I may have a little diffrent outlook on this than others. My brother in law is from Mexico. When he came to this country he was legal but his green card ran out not long after he and my sister were married. They have spent several thousand dollars and five years trying to be sure that he is a permenant resident. I do have to say that the goverment makes it SO hard. They were only three months away when Katrina hit our area. Their paperwork was in New Orleans and OUR goverment said - too bad, start over!

I know there is a huge problem with so many not being legal, but we have to make the process fair and somewhat easier.

Yes - he send money to his family in Mexico, but he is a very hard working young man, 7 days a week most of the time. He takes care of my sister and their children. He is a good man who is trying to make a better life for his children than what he had. His family lives in terrible poverty in Mexico. There are no jobs and their goverment is corrupt. I have been to Mexico on several times. Past all the tourist areas, most people live in terrible conditions. Sometimes they come here illegal out of desperation. I agree with another poster that these people are still humans.

I do agree something needs to be done.

I hope that I have not upset anyone, but just wanted to give everyone a diffrent outlook on this problem.

How many of them hard working (I agree they are hard workers) illegals would be in Iraq right now if given the opportunity???????????????????????
Hmmmmmmm, none I'm thinking, they don't care about this country, they are here to benefit from it's resources.
My brother gave his life for this country while serving in the USAF.
