Are my eggs resting or have they died???

another chick has pipped, that's 5 out of 6 eggs. is it normal for all the pipping to happen on a 24 hour time scale or do they all pip at the same time. the way i'm heading, some might hatch tonight (end of day 20) and some the following evening (end of day 21).

Hatches can be fast or slow. All of mine pipped on Day 21 and they hatched between the evening of Day 21 and the afternoon of Day 22. Sounds like you have a great hatch going!

also, are you allowed to top up the humidity during the hatching process. there is a bit of condensation on the turn motor and little around the rim of the lid. i have heard that chicks naturally increase the humidity when they have just hatched due to the moisture condensing from inside the egg. in the past, when our chicks have hatched the humidity went up due to much more condensation on the viewing window.

Humidity needs to be above 55% after day 18. Higher is ok and the chicks hatching does raise my humidity. I make sure to open all the vents during hatching to account for the chicks added moisture. The egg doesnt gain fluid due to high humidity, yet high humidity keeps air cell from developing appropriately.
I dont make any adjustments that require opening the bator during lockdown. But incubating is like bee keeping its an art form! You can talk to 10 people and get 11 different methods. None are wrong, some are better? Maybe.
I have a good hatch going now. But think I have lost one that had unzipped. 😫 Bless its little heart.
I played with humidity this time and have had a much higher rate than last hatch. Next hatch Im going to use cartons. I cringe when I hear those eggs banging around in the bator after the hatch has started!

thank you for your response, the most recent pipped egg is busy pecking away at the shell. Is it tying to unzip or is it just trying to get a bigger hole to breathe from until it hatches?
