Are my new Sapphire Gems male or female?

Hello all :) it’s been a long time. Life just keeping me busy, you know how it is. Just got two Rhode Island Reds (Pullets) and two Sapphire Gems (straight runs but same bin as RIR). And thought I’d play hen or roo with the new Sapphire babies. Was trying to see if he could do a check but he said they’re not allowed to say if they’re boys or girls (something about someone did that in the past and got it wrong now they’re not allowed to do it). I have googled it and read about the white spot on the head being a male but I just wanted to ask on here if anyone thinks they’re both boys? Or even with the dot is it still too soon?

Yes the dot indicates males with SGs.
Those are both males which is probably more likely why they didn't want to say.
SGs are sex links.

Ah yeah my mom thinks he knew and did it on purpose cause he knew he’d be stuck with the males. Thank you for confirming 🙂

The females I have purchased all had darker down and small head spots. My male was a very light colored chick with a huge head spot.
I think you still have a chance since they have darker down.
You will know for sure if they get barring as they feather out.

Oooh that is reassuring 🙂 not that we can’t have roosters, just didn’t feel ready to have any but we love the Sapphire Gems are hoping we’re wrong lol. Just have to let them feather out and see.

For what it's worth my guy is a totally respectful rooster. I didn't want or need one either but here he is so here he stays...as long as he stays a gentleman.
He was also much larger than the female SG chicks at just a few days old.

Awww, hope he keeps staying a gentleman 🙂 they can get a bad rep but I have heard of nice ones. I will watch them grow a bit more and maybe do a later update when they’re more feathered 🐓

This is just an update since they are going on 3 weeks. DEFINITELY boys.
(Black chick in the one pic is a rustic rock a lady at tractor supply was kind enough to let us use to replace one of the boys we hope to rehome). Just thought if someone else finds this thread it could be helpful for them if they have young SGs too.
