Are my pullets actually roosters?

Cockerels combs may be taller larger upright and more pronounced. Their combs are also usually more red than hens. In certain breeds the cockerel may also have shorter primary wing feathers, and they’re feet are sometimes bigger than hens the same age/breed.
The best, most fail-safe method (besides crowing of course) is to look at the hackles (around the neck) and saddle feathers in front of the tail when the bird is about 3 months old. By that age, cockerels will have long and pointy saddle feathers, while a hen's will be more rounded. Hens saddle and hackles feathers can look a little pointy, too. However they're not as thin or as long as rooster feathers. The shapes of these hackle and saddle feathers will indicate for sure whether you have a cockerel or a pullet... in every breed but Silkies and Sebrights. I hope that helps!
This is very helpful, I would never have known this and I’m going to start paying more attention to these details so that I know what I’m looking at this time and for next time I purchase chickens. Thanks again :)

I’m not so sure they are Roos. The saddle feathers, though curving down, look more rounded at the tips to me. I can’t wait to find out! I have never heard of a Buff Leghorn! Pretty!

Here’s my Brown Leghorn at about the same age, maybe a tiny bit younger...

I agree with The Moonshiner. They look like pullets to me. The comb is larger on pic 1 & 4 (you said it’s the same bird)- but the feathers look more like a pullet, imo. And don’t feel dumb- if it turns out any are roosters- the person that should feel dumb is the person that sold you a bunch of roos and told you they were hens! If that turns out to be the case, I’d march them right back, too! He’s the breeder- he’s supposed to know what he’s talking about! Lol! (Sometimes it’s really hard to sex chicks tho, in his defense!) Good luck!

Hello there, Hannah Hobby Farmer! :frow It's so nice of you to finally join us. :highfive: :yesss:
Your first one I'm not sure on; I'm leaning towards cockerel, too, though (like everyone else, apparently). He/she reminds me of a pullet in the fourth picture, though, and like I said, I'm just guessing as in my opinion, it's very iffy. I mean, the comb is huge, but Leghorns have large combs anyways, and at five-months, they are definitely very mature. On second thought, upon inspecting the birds closely again, I'm leaning towards cockerel a lot more than I originally was.
Have you heard or seen anybody crowing? They mature early, so any pullets should be laying by now, I would think... Have you gotten any eggs? Do the ones you suspect to be roosters have spurs? :)
The second one I'm very uncertain, but again, lightly leaning towards cock. The third one really reminds me of a pullet, and so does the fifth one. The last one looks roosterish in the face...well, s/he looks ornery. Yeah, I suppose I'll guess cock for the last one, the sixth one. :)

Looks like pullets to me.
By 5 months cockerels would have long saddle feathers and a lot of curve in their tails.
Here's one of my buff roosters.

:goodpost:
Very good photo of pointed skinny hackle/saddle feathers.
Males mature earlier so I’d think any cockerels would be crowing by now.
All 4 of mine started crowing at 3 months.
The saddle feathers started growing out at that time too.
By the time they’re 5 months the feathers are pretty long.
I think you have pullets.
