At the feed store this morning, the owner told me he didn't like Buff Orpingtons because in his experience, they were too prone to eating their eggs. A customer who was standing next to us agreed with him.

Does your experience suggest that B.O.'s are more likely to eat their eggs than other breeds?

My worst offenders have always been Easter Eggers. The Orpington problem may be feed related; they eat more than other breeds, maybe those two guys underfed theirs?

Well I will say I only have one Buff Orp and I got her a year later than the other chickens with her and since I got her, eggs are getting eaten. Before that I never had that. She had a hard time integrating.. maybe it's a nervous thing? I'm real quick about getting the eggs now though!

Mine never ate there eggs and this is what i have:
BOs
black sexlinks
rhode island reds
new hampshire reds
silkies
barred rocks
EEs
porcelain d'uccle bantams
and a few mutts..
i have never had a problem with it. so i think that is not true.

Of all the different chickens we've had the BO's were always the most broody and most protective of all the eggs in the nest boxes.
