Eggs and meat here. I incubate year-round, selling the pullets that hatch to locals who don't want to have to pay the shipping and small order fees that the hatcheries charge. With 3 growing kids to feed, it just makes sense to eat the males.

Actually there is. Not everybody can eat alternative proteins. And it's a lot more eco friendly to eat a free range cockerel raised on your own property than it is to purchase soy products that are grown hundreds of miles away, processed and then trucked into the grocery stores.
i guarantee you're not allergic to vegetables

Veggies don't provide protein. It's seeds, grains, and soy that make up the bulk of vegan protein intakes. Soy allergies are on the rise. And it's still better for the environment to consume home grown meat than it is to eat plants that were grown conventionally, many hundreds of miles away. Plus, not everybody lives where there is a grocery store right down the road.

i actually throw up when i eat vegetables, and i love my meat.... i really dont think that there is any need for sarcasm either, this was supposed to be an open, non-judgemental topic area. and yes it is a lot cheaper to process your own animals than to go out and buy all organic, i also raise Boer goats(meat goats) and show them. Just cause i do, doesnt make it wrong. I adore all my animals, regardless of what they are and treat them all with respect, and care for them all equally

Agree that it's never a pleasant thing to have to do. But it makes you appreciate each meal a bit more.

It makes you grateful for the time you do spend with them, and respectful of the life and meat they give
Absolutely, and absolutely.

I think having to personally take an animal's life reduces the amount of meat we eat somewhat. Makes you take a pause and value the food rather than gorging on nameless faceless meat from a package.

Yes, we do...

I will be getting doms soon and hatching them, and roosters will go towards feeding me and my 8-siblings, also mom/dad.

I have been raised with a mindset every animal has a purpose, my dogs (2), Boaz is a family guardian, he protects us from people that may be a threat (which he has proven on many occasions) and gives me companionship, Molly is in training to guard chickens and eventually goats, my cats eat mice, my chickens give me eggs, meat, etc.

I've been helping my dad with butchering since I was 8, and even then I worked on a farm and helped butcher 350-birds on 4-different occasions, I find I love being able to see aniamls as a baby, feed it, love on it, and then see it become my food. I know I'm a little strange but I do.

I love my animals greatly!

And I don't enjoy killing any animal! I find great pleasure in knowing I raised that animal and now it is feeding me.
