Are people really this ignorant about chicken biology?

I've read all the posts on this long thread. I don't think the op is actually calling certain people stupid and certainly no members on here. I'm not sure why some members took offense and she and others apologized and still not good enough. I think saying that the public just is biology knowledge defecient in general, probally in other basic areas as well. I remember being in grammar school and hatching eggs, I came from a inner-city school and barely knew what a chicken or horse for that matter was.

I used to work for a Seed Company that produced corn, soybeans and other crops for farmers. We were at a conference and while sitting at dinner a higher up executive asked how we manufactured them.

I start explaining how the products are packaged.

She stops me--No, no before that. She picks up a corn nibblet from her dinner plate and asks how we got the different layers, and why we packaged it like that.

I politely said that the seeds grow on plants and we harvest the seeds and package them for the farmers.

Someone asked if she had any questions about her steak...She was so embarassed she almost passed out.

I felt really sorry for her.

Let me just add not knowing things they have no reason to care about also does not make them stupid. A very large portion of the population does not care about raising chickens. To set yourself up as superior because you do know something about chickens is beyond me. How pathetic.
