Are Pine Needles(straw) ok to use in nesting boxes

I have a lot of pine needles this year and was wondering if they are ok to use in the nesting boxes. I have been using pine shaving and they kick them out everyday. What do you think?

Pine needles are rather pokey. They may work, but don't ask us, ask your birds. If their feathers and scales keep them from getting poked, who are we to argue. If you start finding eggs on the ground, you will have your answer.
