thanks, i felt like crap, but learned my lesson, for some reason though this small batch of coturnix chicks I hatched were much more startle-able, once i moved them into a glass tank "brooder" to grow out more they calmed down

6 foot you should be fine if you clip their wings however...I clipped my first ever button quail hens wings...she immediatly jumped over 4 ft high (so it was all in her legs not her wings) I almost lost her.

My quail jump and bang their heads all the time. They have never hurt
themselves. I use the plastic chicken fence for the cage's cieling so it's
soft.

With the way our new quail get along with our new silkies I may let
some of them live in the silkie are of the barn.

Quail aren't dumb they are just a skittish sorta bird. Our latest batch
have been hand raised and are SUPER friendly. You may end up with
a few of them.

We had corturnix and bobwhite quail for awhile and they would jump when frightened. The bobwhite were worse. They were extremely scared when we would feed them. We won't get quails ever again. My DH had the great idea of getting them, but it was my job to care for them. When he had to clean them, he was cured. We gave them all away.
