Are railroad ties safe?

    I was thinking of making my base to attach my coop to out of railroad ties as sort of and anchor. It's nearly impossible to get posts deep enough to matter here and the wind is terrible at times. Is the creosote safe to use around the chickens? I know we use it around the horses just fine...

    I saw your thread a few days ago and really don't have a positive answer. Personally I wouldn't use them. Chickens like to peck for bugs and bits of the creosote soaked wood would get injested I'm sure.
