Hens are all individuals. There are going to be noisy and quiet examples in every breed and mix. Some want to be wallflowers and others love to listen to themselves non-stop. Having a rooster will make no difference in their noise level.Hi, I don't know if it is too late to answer your question or not Sire12 about the noise level in favorelle hens. I was brought to this thread for that exact reason. I have 4, 3 of them are wonderful and very sweet, they only make noise when they are laying or excited for treats. One of them is louder than any rooster I have ever owned and I don't currently have a rooster with these girls for them to compete with. They have never had a rooster in the coop or run area. She just screams bloody murder at random times of the day and drives us crazy. It is just non-stop, sometimes she'll go for a good 30-45 mins without a break. Most of the time throwing her a snack or paying attention to her shuts her up for a few seconds, but before the food or attention is gone she is screaming again. We have 11 hens including her, it's a mix between ameraucana, speckled Sussex, and the Favorelles. I'm thinking perhaps because there has never been a rooster she felt it was up to her to have that role. Someone before mentioned theirs had a loud screechy almost like nails on chalk board noise, that's pretty similar to the noise our girl makes.
I'm going to be getting a Salmon Faverolles in the spring, and I'm wondering if she will be noisy? I really can't have a noisy chicken where I live, but a lot of people say that they are noisyAre they? Thanks![]()
