Are some senses of humor just a little too...macabre?

Quote:
Hey, I do that too!

welsummerchicks, those kids are just being immature. Smack 'em around a little bit, and they'll be better off for it.

For me the sadness you feel for the person in the book takes my mind off of my own pain. My father is an acoholic and he has never hit me but some of his actions and words hurt so bad. When you spend 78% of your life curled in a ball trying to be as smallest human the world has ever seen feeling that ENORMUS pain that they don't care, feeling the character's pain helps soothe your own.

As I was watching my town fill with water around me, some punk kid said he hopes the government drops a bomb on my town while all the bogans (rednecks) are trapped so we could rid the world of them.

There's macabre humour and then there's just being inappropriate.

During the tragedy we'd make jokes like, "Hey I found a photo you can hang on the walls... now if we can just find one of your walls, we'll be right!" which I find entirely appropriate and beneficial to healing the pain of the tragedy. Some of the jokes we made still make me laugh. In a giant pile of rubble some guy grabbing a pristine phone and shouting "Hold the phone!"

Please keep it family friendly and do not bypass the language filters

So I wasn't totally crazy when DH had a stroke? As the ambulance took him away, my first thought was 'I hope he had clean underwear on!' I was never sure if I should laugh about the thought or feel really guilty.

Some people don't necessarily find the joke funny, they find someone's reactions funny. They don't care about the dead baby joke, they care that you care.

Isn't this type of humour called gallows humour or something?

Edit: Computer says yes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallows_humor woohoo. There's a NAME for it, people who feel guilty, so don't worry.

I have a weird sense of humor. Although I don't laugh at car crashes if someone hits thier thumb with a hammer I am ROFLMBO!

Once I arrived late at work - it was about a 60 mile drive one way.

I explained to the manager that there was a bad exit with a poorly designed merge, that I used every day as a short cut. There had been a horrible accident ahead of me on the exit ramp, and that we were all stuck there for fifteen or twenty minutes.

He asked specifically what had happened, and I said I didn't know, but a guy had gotten out of his car to take a look and walk around and I'd rolled down my window and I'd heard him say that there had been a really bad mess up there and that's why we were held up.

The manager said, 'If I got held up for twenty minutes and I didn't see body bags, I'd really be mad'.

Forever after I referred to him as "Jim 'Body Bags' Smith".

The news story that prompted my question was the one about that Colorado festival called 'The Frozen Dead Guy Festival'.

Folks, I removed some posts that were adult in nature. Please remember to keep posts suitable for all ages.

Many here are borderline, so use them as an example of the line not to cross.

Thanks

Well I learned, that a lot of people here have a very dry or dark sense of humor, for different reasons.

I also learned that for folks here no matter how dark and dry someone's sense of humor is, there's still the recognition that there really is a time and a place for it.

Not one single person suggested that the dark side needed to be out and about on all occasions, either.
