Are there any Houdans that look like the APA standard?

Houdans are one of the breeds on my 'short list.' The others are Salmon Faverolle (which I'm getting in the spring); Buckeye; Chantecler; and Dominique. All on the Critical list at ALBC. Wish I had room to keep a good breeding flock of all of them.

Now THAT's a thought! Seems like I saw someone on another thread either offering to ship eggs from Australia, or asking to ship some to Australia, so maybe it's possible. Those French Houdans are sure pretty -- I'd be awfully tempted if someone managed to get some of that stock over here!

The problem with that is I don't trust myself to hatch them. I do know someone who hatches all year (she has a problem

) that may do that for me if she has the room.
I wonder how scrambled they would get??? Fragile, breakable, do not bend, shake, or stir labels and a top notch shipping company..... might work

Sure it's possible, but then there's all the paperwork and rules and such that makes it incredibly time consuming and expensive (sorry to burst your bubble

) Import rules are very strict both in the US and in the EU, so that even with hatching eggs you need a vet certificate stating that the flock of origin is healthy and either vaccinated or not vaccinated (depending on the rules)... Good luck with that!

I think my hen might look pretty good. I'll post pictures when I can. She has a nice balance of black and white, in my opinion. And a big ole poof

I got mine from TSC. I plan on picking out more next spring now that I know what the babies look like. I only picked her because I thought she was so cute and floofy as a baby

I have a roo from TSC that I got this spring. He has a white tail, very big wattles and spiky crest like a Polish... so

he cannot go in the breeding pen.

Hi CARS
I am with you and would like to see the Mottled Houdans more to the Standard. I also wish the Houdans here in the US had the leaf comb as they do overseas. I am not sure but I think the leaf comb was the original comb of the Houdan breed.

I found someone on photobucket who has absolutely beautiful houdan(do a search for houdan), I left them a message about hatching eggs.
