Are these black silkies worth $30?

Ya'll she said the BLACK silkies! You're judging the whole group. The white one with the red comb was not in question or any of the others.

The white one in the top pic again has a red crest which is incorrect for silkies Cant tell much from the others. $15 aint bad though, and if you are just wanting them for fun, go for it. You did right too by passing on the first ones. If the seller wont reply to you, you dont want to get involved with them, and look, now you can get them 2 for the price of 1

Have you ever thought that is just DIRT?

It probably is dirt, but the bird does also appear to have pink skin/comb. Certainly worth checking out though. And for a very nice pet quality bird, $15 is a good price.

Actually, the black ones are harder to judge than the whites! Especially the group of 7 in the middle. They blend into a homogeneous blob.

I don't know about silkies but unless she can document that the mothers and dads won shows, I'd go with the $10 to $15 range for pets.

Best of luck....

IMO I would never buy a silkie just by this type of picture. I would have to look at the toes and see if the wings are tight to body and feel the comb/see the skin. It is very hard to pay that kind of money by picture along.

I agree totally with this post! Your best bet is to go take a look for yourself, handle the birds, look everything over then decide if they're with 30 bucks each. Pictures can be very decieving.

I doubt she would be selling quality offspring from show winners for $30.00, check the auctions they go easily for over $100.00. If the parents had placed in shows and not been DQ they are worth $30.00 but that is hard to tell from pictures. Documentation and seeing the birds in person would be the answer.

The time and effort you put in them shows.
Your bantam Cochin and silkies are beautiful.

AC, where in the world do you live?

I have a guy that is selling me some pretty nice quality silkie chicks for $4 apiece, but is trading my blue orps for them here locally in Nebraska.

I havent seen them yet but I figure no prob if they are not fantastic quality.

Yikes, I would be afraid to have that pricey a bird, I had a fantastic silkie I hatched from fowlrus, she was gorgeous and the stupid neighbors dog got her while she was sitting innocently on her nest.
