Hi Everybody,

A friend of mine got these chickens as chicks from School and I am wondering if they are meat birds? What do you think??

Thanks,
QLC

How old are they now? the growth rate will tell it all. Cornish X don't actually mature faster but they put on mass freakishly early and extremely rapidly. Nothing else grows like that, so it should be obvious from that factor alone...

By the way, not to be the bringer of doom and gloom, but in case you weren't aware a cautionary word: modern "broilers" aren't intended to survive to adulthood, and they often have health issues, greater or lesser depending on how much the parent stock has been overbred. The physiological problems may make it a cruelty to keep them into adulthood, although some of that can be mitigated by extra care in raising.

Basically they have heart attacks. You can read about it in the "meat chicken" section. Not meant to be pets, sorry.
