Are these emu eggs fertile? Hatchalong

Pics
4 more went in the incubator last night. That’s 17 or 18 total that could still hatch. The 3 that are now on day 53 were alive as of yesterday and sitting at the bottom of the incubator. Nothing attempting to hatch this morning. 2/5, 2/9 and the 2 2/12s are all wiggling.

Do baby Emus snuggle beneath papa when young? If so, maybe you can rig up a heating pad papa so he can come and go without danger? That's what I use when I get day olds from a hatchery. Very easy to make from wire and safe for the little ones. Plenty of threads on here that show how to make them. So glad you didn't loose him. Can't wait for the others to hatch!! The heating pad "mama" or "papa" would probably cut down on your stress level in trying to keep them warm enough since you've got more on the way. You've done such a wonderful job!!! :love:thumbsup

Thanks! I am trying to put something together similar to what you’re describing in the cabin. I purchased a used wire 8 panel play pen and it just now needs a heating source. Unfortunately (but also fortunately) the heating pad that I have has auto shut off. So it doesn’t keep a constant available heat source. So I’ll be looking for something that will work. With the size of the birds, I’ll need to find an extra large sized heat pad 🤔

This little bugger is so lucky I just took a position that started at home!

That is definitely a problem. I found my last one on A--zon. Extra large and has a switch to set it always on. If the electricity goes out or blinks, it re-sets to the default of 2 hours. You might also look at seedling heating pads. They stay on all the time, are waterproof (NICE) and have a gentle heat. I've found 2 that are super large and should accommodate the Emu's size. :D

Thank you! I’ll try to find one that has the option for always on.

While we’re on the topic of beebees… there’s a hatcher! Was wiggle checking the three that were due Sunday and one has made an exit hole/crack:wee hopefully me opening the incubator doesnt do what happened to the last one. I’ll be keeping an eye on it.
