Are these Welsummers roos?

I agree with SpeckledHen!

I have gotten three different lines and it is not certainly 100 fool proof. It was more of a 50/50 chance. Even the males get an eyeliner and distinctive V's too.

Some bloodlines have the capability of sexing them but not all breeders have it.

Uzuri, where did you get your chicks from? It is my understanding that many of the chicks that come from the hatcheries do not have the distinct markings on the headcap or eyeliner. I have not heard of a Wellie having a "serious eyeliner" and "very defined V" and not being a female. I would add that the V is not only clearly defined but it should have a thin black line running alongside as well.

He was hatchery, though because I went in with someone else and she did the actual ordering, I can't remember which one at the moment. Let's see if I can dig up the early pics...

OK, unless I got them mixed up along the way (and I took pictures daily up to 4 weeks, when it was already very obvious who was the boy so I *shouldn't* have mixed them up), they were:

As you can see, one of the little ladies didn't even look like a proper wellie (though she very much does now; I can hardly tell the two girls apart). I can very much believe that hatchery chicks you can't tell and traceable lines you can, though!

Of course, since most people here buy hatchery, it's probably best to clarify that when people ask

Here are those chicks 6 weeks old. I purchased the eggs from a BYCer from Flordia so I do not know their lineage. One is a little more aggressive than the other, but here is the question...Is number 1 or 2 or both a ROO???

I'd say both too; sorry. My ladies don't have that much comb at 13 1/2 weeks.

I guess, depending on what you wanted.

Well...I found someone to take my roos. She seemed really nice. They are going to be rehomed on a 5 acre place out in the desert. She even offered to let me come out and check up on them. Even though they are roos, they were still my pets. Kinda of sad you know...Bought two EE at the feed store to replace them. They better be hens!!!!
