Preach! I was on there before I found this site. Reddit is even worse, a lot of 'know-it-alls' doling out bad advice.

I once saw a post where a woman had a (single) chick with a plate of earthworms in the brooder. She was asking about the breed and several people responded about what breed the chick might be, but not 1 pointed out that chicks need starter/grower crumble.

Once I told the woman she was in complete shock because she "watched some YouTube videos and did research"

About 5-6 people started asking me all kinds of questions about raising chicks. I just started raising chicks in December, if I'm the authority in the room they're in trouble. I directed them here, lol.

I've only recently joined Facebook to find local swaps

OH MY GOD the ignorance is *astounding* it will do my head in, I cannot respond anymore.

I agree that Facebook is NUTS. The few groups I like are the exhibition poultry and the genetics one. I think they’re actually more knowledgeable than BYC in those niche areas. I feel like a lot of the extremely knowledgeable breeders have left BYC. To where, I’m not sure. Normal Facebook and Reddit are wrong probably more times than they’re right. It takes every ounce of maturity in myself not to argue with every reply

This is very true. Too social media here and not enough chicken people. But we ain't Facebook bad yet.

I agree! Very thankful for the current community but can’t help but miss some of the people from 5-10 years ago
