Can't say for sure as I'm a newbie and just got my 1st chicks from TSC today. But I specifically asked if they needed any shots or meds and they said no but did recommend I give an antibiotic in the water for a while. Of course TSC employees can be far from knowledgeable so take it for what it's worth.
Ok good! I did not vaccinate my hatchery chicks and for some reason it didnt even occur to me to ask when I got my EEs and Buff Orps at the Co-op, as to whether they were vax'ed or not. Good to know!
Quote: That depends on the state you're in. Here in WA they have to be vaccinated or they're not allowed to be shipped into the state.
True! Forgot to mention that part. State laws vary quite widely on many issues pertaining to shipped eggs/birds. After having seen firsthand what Marek's does, if I EVER get any more chicks, they will be vaccinated before they leave the hatchery.
TSC gets all their chicks from reputable hatcheries....Privett, Mt Healthy...etc.....I would assume they are vaccinated? We do have one local feed store that gets their chicks from a local breeder...but the TSC's get their's from hatcheries....big ones that can handle the volume of their orders. Remember, if you put in a custom order with your feed store for a particular chick(s) to be shipped with theirs, you can request the vaccines.

yes, but the majority of the chicks are NOT routinely vaccinated. As far as I know, the hatcheries only vaccinate the ones going to a state which requires it, or when requested by a customer. The majority of them are not vaccinated.

The manager at our TSC verified that their chicks are NOT vacccinated. It's not surprising. Vaccination costs extra and at the quantity TSC buys, there's no reason for them to pay additionally for the vaccine. It would be nice if TSC sold the Marek's vaccine, but they don't. It's not even on their list of vaccines they can order.
