Are You A Brinsea Owner? - April Hatch Along - Prize: Ecoglow Brooder!

My ducklings are only in the house during the first two weeks- then they get dispatched to an outbuilding with a heat lamp. Ducks are really very friendly and can imprint on you, because mine live on the pond, I try to discourage them becoming to attached.

Personalities? Well when my car rolls in the driveway, they rush to greet me! But then so do all the critters as it means meal time.

What are you weighing your eggs with? I'm seriously considering starting to weigh my eggs since my hatch rates have been so poor I would hope it might help

My guess is ducks imprinting on a human may happen more often than a chicken imprinting on a human. Just kinda the general impression I have, I've had people tell me that chickens do it when you hatch and hand raise them but I haven't seen it happen at all with my silkies. They only start wanting to be near me when they start seeing me and thinking "meal time" or "treats!" like your critters do lol
I'd love to have ducks but I don't have a pond and I have a smallish yard so adding on top of my silkie empire is probably a bad idea...

not bordergurl, but...
I use a digital postal scale to weigh my eggs, but the scale rounds to the nearest tenth. If I were to pick out a scale for the sole purpose of egg weighing, I'd want it to round to the hundreth place, but I can be overly analytical at times.

I use a cheap digital scale that only rounds to the 10th. Yes to the 100th would be desirable!!!!!!

Here's my entry for this month, though we're nowhere near done hatching yet. I have 24 eggs in the Brinsea, but didn't candle before locking down, so there may be some that never should have gone in lock down. As it stands, however, I have no idea how many chicks are in my 20 eco; the only thing I DO know is that it's getting mighty crowded in there!
