Are you kidding me?

I know in Georgia a mallard has to be "three generations from wild'' to be sold. I'm not sure if this helps or even what it means, just wanted to say it!!!!

I haven't read the entire thread, but I'm in ny and I own(ed) several mallards. One of which is in my barn at this very moment, from Tractor Supply.

You must have them marked by a toe(webbing) punch or clip their back toe before six week of age. To certify they came from a hatchery.

Granted, you can have a serious fine if you even touch wild mallard nest/feathers ect.

It is illegal to own their shed feathers even.

But if you got it from TSC or another hatchery, usually they already had their toes clipped.
Mine unfortunately did not, and now I have to punch his toe-webbing or something before long. Grr on Mt. Healthy Hatchery for being lazy. And also GRR on TSC for claiming they were rouens. Because Mt. Healthy does not SELL rouens.
