Are you wondering what "squatting" is? (video)

No problem! Bumping for those who are new and would like to know what squatting is

I have 8 pullets that squat and stomp their feet every afternoon when I go to feed them after work. Worse than a cat for getting under foot. I try to pick then up and ruffle their feathers a bit before letting them back down. They ruffle their feathers and run off content at getting some affection from their rooster.

Thanks so much for the video! I wish I'd seen it when I first started, I kept hearing about squatting and didn't kow what to expect.

Well, I'll be! My most skittish BO did that very thing just this morning. I came in and told my husband, "It's like Hazel's had a complete personality change. When I walk up to her she just hunkers down and lets me scoop her up. Plus, her wattles and comb are getting really red. And ditto for Lucy."

I had no idea that was an indication of egg laying. I thought it was conditioned behavior, anticipation of being picked up. Out big girl and first to lay eggs always does it, our ornery Sussex is a regular layer but never squats. Such curious behavior!
