Are your geese done laying for the year?

Yesterday after it rained Ron come in and said what do you want to do with this? I looked and it was a goose egg. I was surprised because I thought we were done with eggs. I do not think there will be anymore because I have not seen any ganders mounting. But that does not mean anything...We shall see.

Humm, so what did you do with it?

Miss Lydia I disposed of it. I have put up my 2 incubators. I am done and so tired from raising and cleaning goslings in my bathroom for about 2 months. My husband never did bring up my big horse troft so I got to clean goslings containers for a very long time. I was pretty upset with him because he is not the one cleaning all their mess up. My bathroom looked like gosling world war two!!! It has stuff slung all over the place. I just finished cleaning up the bathroom this weekend. It took me all day to scrub the walls, toilet, cabinets and floor. With my back in such awful condition because I have broken it 3 different times, going on 14 years of dialysis taking the calcium out of my bones and my spine curving. It is super hard to clean like this anymore!!!
This body can only handle so much.

Thanks for asking though. All the later eggs laid that I brought in to hatch did not do anything. My ganders were done breeding the girls. Plus now they have 6 goslings to take care of. All the gander and only one female wants to care for the goslings. Have a few fights with the ganders because they all want to watch them. The gander who wins out in the end is Spicie who watches the goslings. The female is Sarina. This is my female none of the ganders will breed. She has laid eggs every year for 3 years and no goslings. So she is thrilled to have gosling to watch..

Except for my Sammie. I have put horse wrap on my Sammie's leg. I wrap it from up on the feathers on the top of the leg down past the joint. It seems to make him rest more. He hates the wrap. Tries to walk and keeps kicking his leg out backwards. But he is resting more to help heal the leg if it can be healed.

Aww RURU I know it's hard especially when health is an issue, I hope you can rest now and just enjoy your flock. and as for Sammie I hope the wrap helps. Is he able to walk at all?

Miss Lydia he does walk very slowly but does get around. He has had a limp every since a gosling that is over 6 years going on 7 years now. He is healthy except for the failure in his leg now. He does get into the pools and takes his bath. It got worse after all the fighting with other ganders. They seem to pick on my Sammie. Brats! If Sammie keeps this way he is not going to make it through the winter here.

Well she has done it again laid # 58. I am beside myself to know what to do, she now has the last 7 eggs in her nest but still will only lay on them at night. I sure wish she would stop. laying that is.

Poor guy! Do you have him on glucosamine?

Let's take a deep breath. It is my understanding that geese ideally want 7-12 eggs in their nests before going broody. Broodiness can happen literally overnight. I bet she will go broody in a few days.

Thanks J, I am leaving them all to see what happens, should I check for fertility or just let her have a go no matter what?
