Arghh, another drop off. In labour? update. help now please!

Okay, so mama and babies were checked today. The vet said she was surprised they were doing as well as they are seeing how undernourished mama is. She said they are VERY tiny, the biggest one is 1.5oz. Mama only weights 6 lbs and doc said she is 8 months old max. Mama is on a very high quality kitten food with kmr mixed in to help give her a boost. Doc said the kittens should get enough milk as long as her diet is very dense in nutrients. No supplemental feeding for the kitties(phew!). I just need to weight them daily to be sure they are getting enough. Doc had a few explanations for her difficult labor she thought it was probably due to her young age combined with poor nutrition. Sometimes she said in malnourished cats the placenta grows deeper than normal into the uterus and then does not separate properly. She thought that the kittens nursing has helped mama expel all of the products of birth but has advised me to keep a close eye on her discharge. It should continue to get less and less red and have no odor. But by palpating her abdomen she thought mama would be fine. She said that we all did a good job! I explained the whole thing, frantic typing, running back and forth from kitty to comp. Anyways thanks again for all your help and I will post pics and keep you all updated.
Now the hard part, finding homes! I phoned our local SPCA and they are filled to the max and euthanizing everyday. So we are going to do the job! Hopefully to friends and family so I can see them and know they are well taken care of.

I am so glad t hear momma and kittys will be on a road to good health, I can just see the look on the vets face while you are explaining the mad computer runs lol.

Wow, that is great. I am glad you were there to help her out.

She probably would have been dog food if she had come here, our GSD is bad about that. She picked the right place, that is for sure!

And people think BYC is just "that chicken site"....

Okay guys this is beyond ridiculous. Yesterday with all the excitement with the mama kitty showing up here and everything that ensued I did not clean out my duck barn. I let them out in the am and closed the door with only a glance around to make sure no oppussoms were in there to eat my poor ducks eggs in the evening. My son let them out again and fed them this morning before school. I went out to tidy up just a few mins ago and looky there black and white kitty sitting in the corner, probably terrified as my Muscovies are NOT scared of cats and they let them know whos boss. My first thought! Maybe daddy got dropped off with mama kitty. NOT SO. I WISH! Kitty came over I picked her up as soon as I looped my hand under her belly I was like "oh oh" obviously a lactating mom. Quick search around the barn guess what? 6 KITTENS! They look older. Eyes are open and they are walking unsteadily around. This mama is skinny also and looks about the same age as the little orange mama inside. WHAT am I to do? Now I have 11 kittens on my property. My youngest cat is 5yrs old! These kitties were not there the day before yesterday so I am wondering 2 things. She moved her kitties to my barn from somewhere else OR she was dropped off with the orange one! I do live in the country but we do not have a lot of barn cats around here. There are a few feral s but I recognize them and we notice when a new cat is in the area. So two strange and very friendly pregnant and obviously not feral cats show up probably the same day. Coincidence? Any advice? Do I leave those babies out there or take up my second bathroom with a mama and babies? I know that the SPCA in the area is euthanizing as they are full to capacity.

Edited to add. I'm heading back out there to finish tidying up and bring that mama some food and krm.. how convenient to have on hand! I guess I will have to stay out there while she eats because my 'scovies love cat food. I'll be back in a few.

I would just leave them be and give her food and water. We have 4 kittens in our rafters with their half feral momma now. She originally had them out under our burn pile and moved them up closer to our house. The eyes open around the 9th day to give you a guesstimation on age. Good Luck with all your kitties.
