Arizona Chickens

Here's two more. We do make jam out of the flower buds after spring. The doves make nests in them and once DH did cook some and said they look like mashed potatoes and taste like greenbeans.

They only like the young paddles.. The older ones they turned their nose up too, but ran after the young, new paddles.

That is a dove egg/nest. They are the dumbest birds ever when it comes to nest building! It is a wonder the species survives.

I don't know how you can tell just by looking at the nest! She is sitting on it now.

I am trying desperately to get caught up on this thread. It isn't working.

to all the newbies!!!

Now, once again, I really need your help. We have these 8 adorable little chicklets and we are truly enjoying them. I was fairly certain that one of the California whites is a rooster. His name is Spot. Spot was always standing on top of the food, and I think he may have gotten injured by jumping off? He was just so active and curious, always pecking us and anything else. Then suddenly, he has a big blue spot on his left leg. The weird thing is that it appears to be his right leg that is hurting. He barely walks, though he can. We pick him up to put him at the water or food, and he will lay down and eat or drink. Then he pitifully limps off and lays down. The other chicks walk all over him and poop on him. It's pitiful. I also noticed that when he lays down, he often puts that right leg off to the side and curls it up. Is this an injury or a defect? Is there anything I can do to help him? The girls have been bringing him inside and letting him lay in their laps while they do school work just so he can get some sleep without being stepped on. He seems to really love that. Should I isolate him? That seems sort of harsh. He's about 3 weeks old. Thanks in advance for the advice!
