Arizona Chickens

If anyone is looking for something to do on Sunday, the Tucson Poultry, Pigeon and Fancy Fowl Club is having a poultry show. It is being held at the Ewer Ranch at 6262 So Sorrel Lane.

Judging starts at 9:00 am.
They will sell hamburgers, hot dogs and soda for lunch.
They will also be selling baked goods.

And I know that there will be birds for sale, also.

Hope to see ya there!

I don't get it, too! Or the baby!

Congrats on the egg!!!

I hope you all are doing better tonight that we are....

Chrystal- Oh no! Are you still feeling ok? How's the baby(ies)? You aren't so far we can't come down and bring you a few casseroles.

Granted, we would probably leave them on the curb, honk, and back slowly away. But we will wave aloha in passing

Keep us updated, ok?

That little punk has been into everything this morning. OMG! He just jumped down. I have a tall reefer. He is just a baby.

I need to get my behind in gear. I'm not even dressed yet. I did finish my pot of coffee. I am going to try and get some fence up today. I changed my mind yet another time, where I will put the gate. I think I have made a decision at last. Now to get it done before I change my mind again.

Pati--- We all knew what you meant. Larissa is just pulling your leg! Yeah, as if someone who has it would post about it on BYC or any other public website. No worries...

Well, I hope you all are having a good sunday. So far hubby is the only onr sick. If no one else is sick by Wednesday then we are in the clear. It only has a 7 day incubation period. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Poor hubby is in isolation and miserable. Not to mention the kids miss him!

I built a new quail hutch yesterday to move the babies out of the house. They STINK!!!!! So, today is moving day for them!

I will post a picture of the hutch I built so you guys can see it, too.

Have a great day everyone!!!!

Oooo! I'm the first to post on Page 170! HeHe...

Crystal- sorry to hear about hubby and the bunnies. You've had it tough lately.

On a happier note, I got my tiny flock this Friday. A Red Sex Link, RIR, and Cuckoo Maran. Really, really hoping that the sexing was accurate since I really can't have roo's. My neighbors are close by and I want to remain friends.

I told my co worker I was looking at a farm in QC and she said that I should plan on protecting my chickens from frogs. She is out there and they have a frog problem....guess they come to the water and let off a poison that bothers the dogs if they catch them and contaminate their water or something like that...any one know about frogs or the type she is referring to so i can look them up and if they are going to be a problem I should plan for? I have not seen it on the forum so wondered if she was mistaken.

Crystal, love all your pictures. the one awhile back with you baby is just beautiful...You and yours have sure had a lot of mishaps but it seems Your family is a brave group of troopers...I have no doubt that nothing in life will keep anyone down for long.

Still waiting for eggs. anyone know when Delawares, reds and BO lay?

That would be the enormous Sonoran Desert Toad, a.k.a. Colorado River Toad. They're much more toxic than the average toad (capable of killing dogs that bite or mouth them). Definitely keep them out of the chickens' water dish.

Which raises the question: Has anyone had success with bottle-and-tube waterers designed for rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.? If you could use a large enough bottle, that should be the ultimate in preventing contamination, evaporation, and spillage.

Thank you.

I actually have a water system similar to that where the chickens are to peck at the bottom spout but the chickens never used it as far as I could tell...so I just kept changing out the regular water dishes...they used the little chick type and just kept with that method only larger cause the summer was so hot i was afraid to take it away and force them to it....not sure they will use it. Would definitely be an answer in many ways
