I'm a bit behind from work, don't think I'll get all of the missed posts - sigh!

I did that when mine were chicks too ... then we moved the heat lamp out to the coop so they could stay there 24/7 ... we did put a board up so they had an enclosed area on three sides where the heat lamp was. I think even though they are 3 months old, they would still sleep under the heat lamp if it was there instead of on the perch. Have you given any of your chicks weeds yet? Mine love them!!! They also love the grass clippings from when DH mows the yard - we don't spray for anything so it's okay.

there is nothing like the disappointment of buying sexed chicks, only to find out they are in fact boys. been there, done that a few times over. and here we go AGAIN. i have two beautiful sicilian buttercup cockerals, 9 weeks old from mcmurrary, vaccinated, one started crowing on sunday. need homes PLEASE. no rehoming fee, not worth eating, won't be any bigger than a leghorn. i just need them to find a home, am already getting attached. i cried for 2 days when laree took my BA roo to freezer camp last week

i just can't keep that many roos. i already have a blue cochin roo in the growout pen, possibly two! chicken math stinks.

I know, I was so sad when Gabby turned into a boy, and then when Blue Belle did too, I was ready to not do chicks anymore! Of course now I have some chicks again, but it is really terrible when you love them and you can't keep them because they are boys

I think everyone I have right now are girls - thank goodness! My little EE/Polish mix that I got from Mahalo4 is looking very girlish - we kept the one we were pretty sure was a girl and found homes for the other two, since my coop is pretty small. My run is a fine size, and all summer they will be free range every day, and all during school they will be free range 5 days a week. I'm worried if I get over 6 that there will be unhappiness and maybe some mutilation those two days a week during the school year. I'm too paranoid to have them out all day without being able to at least check on them every few hours.
